Who doesnt love Magrudergrind if you say me then I am going to have to take as a guess that you haven't heard them, and are just saying so to piss me off, although this is all irrelevant as I can't hear you say these things, but what is relevant is that their latest E.P Crusher is out for free yes you heard me for free! For those interested in the controversy surrounding it and my defensive rage over the subject matter, look no further than here.

Sure, capitalism sucks, corporations SUCK but is Magrudergrind totally co-opting their sound/message simply to get mass appeal? No. I heard some rap on the album which took me off guard and on the whole its not as balls to wall as their other releases and Im slightly disappointed with what ive heard. BUT most fans treat development(whatever that entails for the ARTISTS) as if its the fucking devil. As if these artists exist solely to entertain THEIR particular taste. Artists always do it for themselves. Any real artists who enjoys what theyre doing, and arent totally mentally stagnant, change internally and thus their music should change externally. Look at most of the bands from the 80s that lasted more than 1 or 2 albums. Im no posi-core but Gorilla biscuits said it best "hats off to bands that change. Good luck, go your own way. Why play for us,if your heart's not in it?"
People grow, its that simple, I dont mean "grow up" or "adolthood"(Crucial Unit fans), but restricting your views to one particular sect is a betrayal of YOUR SELF and our inherent curious nature and ultimately just becomes stagnant elitism that accomplishes nothing. I cant tell you how many times ive watched people snub their noses cuz what im listening to isnt BRUTAL, as if i should only ever wanna feel angry.
When punk, hardcore, grind first came around, they rocked the boat, fucked shit up, got attention, inspired people and did insight some change, if only locally (you gotta start somewhere). Of course they got spoiled, and it has nothing to do with the core artists developing and moving onward. thats the nature of every movement their has ever been. There has never been a niche movement that stayed active and influential past their prime, thats just the ebb and flow of all things.
---What good is your bitching and moaning if its not doing anything besides temporarily releasing tension, getting off on anger like a drug(im looking at YOU sXe scenester elitists!), and arguing over silly scene politics as if that was the point. Its like shitting and vomitting where you sleep only to wake up and eat that shit and vomit over and over. Look, i understand you've found an awesome outlet for your anger and a community where you feel you belong, and thats great, 100% awesome, everyone needs that. But when you become an elitist selfish scenester youve forgotten why you went looking for that community in the first place. Because at one time you thought the world shouId be more open minded and not so quick to judge and be a good place for everyone to live.
I understand that the corporate machine seems insurmountable, and you wanna take care of your own. But the real task is finding a way to do that and subvert and circumvent its machinations and reach out to the ignorant people you've come to hate so much. That doesnt necessarily mean subverting your own ideals, if you know how to do it right. Im not saying get out on a soapbox and preach. But if you can allow for modicum internal change, you can reach out to a new/different group of like minded folks. Underground rap, folk, electronica, jazz all contain like minded individuals focused on positive change that you can work with to at least change your own community. It can be hard to sift thru the shallow scenesters but thats a task in every group. Dont become just another hive-mind transfixed on a particular niche, thats no better than being a square watching tv all day. But hey, if you wanna be a lazy hedonist, "slave for a pitance", just killin time til you die, thats cool too, I know that feeling. Just remember, thats the cleverness of their machination actualized.
